about the book
Cora Webb has owned the bookshop on Maple Hollow’s main street for eight years. She has been divorced for six of them. She has not, until this week, had her ex-husband show up on her sidewalk at seven in the morning with a coffee, a toolbox, and the polite expression of a man who is going to fix the gutter whether she likes it or not.
Sam Webb is a contractor now. He is, against every law of small-town gossip, very good at it. He is also still a very quiet, very kind man, which is the thing Cora had always pretended was the problem. It wasn’t the problem. The problem is going to take her the length of a hardback to admit.
“He brought coffee. He always brought coffee. That was, in the end, the entire problem.”
